Daniel Island Performing Arts Center Successfully Completes First Phase of Fundraising Campaign

The Daniel Island Performing Arts Center, Inc. (DIPAC) recently announced the successful completion of its first major fundraising milestone that provides the financial resources to purchase the Island Park Drive site in the center of Daniel Island and to launch the first phase of construction. Individual commitments and pledges in excess of five million dollars have been raised to date for the state-of-the-art performing arts facility, organizers said in a press release.

The facility will include a 400 seat theatre, rehearsal halls, catering kitchen, and community gathering spaces, as well as projected mixed use and retail to create an iconic and welcoming destination in the heart of the Daniel Island downtown district. The design team is headed by the local architectural firm Stubbs Muldrow Herin Architects, Inc.

Last week marked the official kickoff of an accelerated (July 19 – September 30, 2016) ONE million dollar fundraising campaign for completing theatre design, permitting, and hiring staff to kick off DIPACs national fundraising campaign scheduled for launch this October.

Founder Mary Gould envisions DIPAC as a “Jewel in the Crown” asset for the greater Charleston arts scene and Daniel Island, and for Berkeley County for which DIPAC will be its first performing arts venue.

“I also envision establishing South Carolina’s first League of Resident Theatres (LORT) theatre at DIPAC as the anchor tenant,” says Mary. “LORT is a prestigious designation for a regional destination theatre that provides a significant economic engine for its community. LORT theatres also are incubators for Broadway productions, are eligible for regional Tony awards, and expand opportunities for performing artists living and working in the community.”

“As the home of a League of Resident Theatre, DIPAC will be another great asset to our performing arts community,” said Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg. “DIPAC will make a significant economic impact and, perhaps even more importantly, provide many opportunities for artists who have chosen to live and work in Charleston. We are delighted to welcome this project, which will enhance our thriving arts scene.”

"The Daniel Island Company is delighted to play a part in bringing the Daniel Island Performing Arts Center to our Island Community. This cultural milestone will offer the perfect complement to The Volvo Car Stadium and The MUSC Health Stadium activities, and will serve as a major gathering and event space for those who live and play on Daniel Island. It’s going to be cool, fun and will draw people from all over the region, as well as nationally and beyond. The operations, design and development team are as good as it gets and I hope the community support helps push this project into the end zone,” said Matt Sloan, of the Daniel Island Company.

DIPAC is a 501c3 entity, which is dedicated to education, cultivation, and the advancement of the performing arts. The DIPAC on Daniel Island will be a destination entertainment center for Daniel Island creating tens of millions of dollars in local economic impact, attracting daily visitors from not only the local Charleston area but nationwide. After obtaining the coveted LORT theater designation, DIPAC will attract some of the highest quality live performances to perform on Daniel Island in Charleston.
