DI boy scout working to create new 'Scout Park'

A new community park adjacent to Scott Park Pool may soon be emerging, thanks to the work of a Daniel Island boy scout. Cameron Kimner, a senior at Academic Magnet High School, has been a member of Troop 519 for more than seven years. He hopes to complete his latest project – dubbed “Scout Park” – as part of his Eagle Scout requirements. The park will be located at the corner of Scott Street and Corn Planters Street.

Kimner is working with the Daniel Island Property Owners Association and The Greenery to build the park, which will serve as a public green area to be used “for just relaxing or spending time with family or friends,” said Kimner. The Greenery has come up with a design for the space (see diagram). To help raise the estimated $4780 needed to create the park, Kimner has launched a GoFundMe page. As of Monday, the fund had reached $2150.

“The funds will help to contribute to the current plan for the project which includes: installing benches, plants, a palmetto mix pathway, soil additives, new turf on the surrounding of the park, as well as put down new pinestraw in the area,” stated Kimner on the GoFundMe page.

Kimner also noted that he would welcome any donations of physical materials for the project. He hopes to complete the park on Oct. 28.

“I hope that Scout Park will serve to commemorate our Daniel Island boy scout troop as well as provide a space for the residents of Daniel Island to use and enjoy for years to come,” said Kimner.
