TEN YEARS AGO - PARK DAY PREVIEW

In the October 12, 2006 edition of the paper was a Park Day preview, featuring what was planned for the coming Saturday.

In school news, Daniel Island School opened the Cabana Café in the school library, a special reading location coupled with reading rewards.

In other news, the Daniel Island Neighborhood Association was pressing the city for funding to build tennis courts at Freedom Park, a restroom area at Etiwan Park and a Dog Park; East Shore Athletic Company (now O2 Fitness) announced they would take over The Field House facility at 295 Seven Farms Drive, which had closed its doors in July.

Our “What I do” segment featured Larry Whetsell, POA maintenance supervisor, who had 35 years in ship repair before taking on his POA responsibilities.

FIVE YEARS AGO - RACE FOR THE CURE PREVIEW

In the October 13, 2011 edition of the paper the cover and centerfold featured the Race for the Cure.

In other charitable news, we reported that Bishop England students took to the football field for a massive 100-yard piggyback race in hopes of breaking the Guinness Book of World Records piggyback race numbers. The event also included a canned food drive for the hungry.

In news, Berkeley County Superintendent Dan Davis told island residents that we did not have a recycling program because they were no longer viable and that the county is exploring waste to energy programs.
