TEN YEARS AGO - DISASTER SCENARIOS FOR DANIEL ISLAND
In the September 28, 2006 edition of the paper the cover and centerfold featured stories on the great Charleston Earthquake of 1886 and a new book on the topic by Richard N. Côté, “City of Heroes: The Great Charleston Earthquake of 1886.” We also featured the flu epidemic and other disasters that could affect the island.
In news, two islanders running for school board, Don Rose and Dan Kingsbury, debated incumbent school board member Francis Brewer.
In our “What I do” feature, we interviewed Angie Barnes, earth-friendly entrepreneur. This Daniel Island business woman was helping locals with her new home-cleaning service, Naturally Maid, which uses only all natural products.

FIVE YEARS AGO - LOCO SPRINT TRIATHLON HELD ON DI TO BENEFIT MUSC
In the September 29, 2011 edition of the paper we featured the Loco sprint triathlon on the cover and with additional photos inside the paper. Photos included participation by island physicians Isabel Driggers and Charlie Turner. Proceeds benefited the MUSC Center for Drug and Alcohol Programs. The race itself was postponed due to Hurricane Irene causing it to be postponed earlier in the year.
In other news, pioneering islander Greg Rawls won the 2012 design contest for the Cooper River Bridge Run as his kiln-formed glass structure of a bridge sunset was transferred to a two-dimensional rendering for use on the thousands of posters and t-shirts that were produced for the 2012 Cooper River Bridge Run.
