DINA Dashboard - August 2016

There is often confusion or misconception about the Daniel Island Neighborhood Association (DINA). DINA is different than the POA. The POA and its three subordinate organizations, the Daniel Island Community Association (DICA), Daniel Island Park Association (DIPA) and Daniel Island Town Association (DITA) are responsible for maintaining the common areas and amenities in those three areas, and managing the financial resources necessary to accomplish those tasks. Your yearly homeowner assessment is a result of the DICA, DIPA and DITA budgets and expenses.

DINA is an organization that is recognized by the POA, the city and the county to represent all our residents and provide a collective voice to deal with public policies and services as well as an opportunity to meet with other residents and officials, and build upon our past 20 years of community excellence. Our meetings are open to everyone and we hope to see you at our next meeting on September 6.

At that meeting, we are excited to announce that our guest speaker will be Mayor Tecklenburg. Our city councilman Gary White will join him, and they will outline a new agreement between the city and the Daniel Island Company that will pave the way for an indoor recreation and community center in Governor’s Park, the creation of a waterfront park along the Wando River, and access to 52 acres of recreational green space adjacent to the Edgefield Park neighborhood.

Here is a snapshot of our current committee activities. Bookmark our web page, dineighborhoodassociation.org and follow us on Facebook.

OWNERSHIP TRANSITION
(contact transition@dineighborhoodassociation.org )

The full committee met in June with Jane Baker to review a to-do list of issues that the committee will research and investigate over the next several months. Three key topics that will be reviewed this year are: all governing documents, financial statements, and reserve accounts.

A collection of all pertinent documentation has been prepared for the committee to review. The next meeting will be in the fall.

526 NOISE
(contact 526@dineighborhoodassociation.org )

This newly formed committee is pursuing noise abatement options for the lane expansion project for 526 as it crosses the residential areas of Daniel Island. We think this recently announced SCDOT project will provide an opportunity for a comprehensive environmental impact study as it effects the existing and newly constructed residential areas of Daniel Island along the path of 526. The committee is scheduling a meeting with SCDOT.

SAFETY COMMITTEE
(contact safety@dineighborhoodassociation.org )

We need more volunteers for the 2016/17 school-year Safety Patrol Program. Please email safety@dineighborhoodassociation.org to support this important project and help our children get to and from school safely.

The safety committee and the city traffic department walked the island to review a list of safety issues. As a result the following improvements are being implemented: Single side parking signs are being added to some streets to improve drivability; new school zone signs are being installed around the Daniel Island School and Bishop England High School; and, new crosswalk markings have been requested at Barfield and Daniel Island Drive and at Seven Farms Drive and Island Park Drive. Some crosswalks and center yellow lines will be repainted.
