Safer traffic solution
I was driving on Seven Farms Drive, approaching the intersection with River Landing Drive, where I was going to turn left. The traffic light was red as I approached. There was a car behind me with its left-turn signal on as well.
I try not to get into the turn lane any sooner than needed but I am always wary of cars behind me pulling into the lane and cutting me off.
As this was happening, a car traveling south on River Landing Drive had a green light. It turned right onto Seven Farms Drive and quickly entered the left-turn lane and turned in front of me and into the drive to the police station. Had I not been paying attention and driving the speed limit it would have been easy to collide with the oncoming car.
This has happened to me twice over the course of a few months and I imagine it has happened to others as well. This loop is one-way, entering on Seven Farms Road and exiting on River Landing Drive.
Although not ideal, it would seem that reversing the direction of the loop would be a much safer option. With the increase in traffic on River Landing Drive with the construction of additional housing near the river, the change would reduce left-turn traffic from the loop onto
River Landing Drive. With the general increase in traffic on the island, I think this and other potential trouble areas should be studied for ways to make them safer and more efficient.
