MORE ON THE ROUNDABOUT
As a former, active member of a Daniel Island Neighborhood Association (DINA) committee that attempted to address the Daniel Island Drive/Seven Farms Road intersection, I am writing to support Greg Turner’s position and add some thoughts.
The Daniel Island Drive/Seven Farms Road traffic circle appears to be a fait accompli. Berkeley County and our local representatives have effectively ignored for years simpler and less costly improvements to the intersection that would have addressed vehicular traffic issues, preserved traffic lights and allowed for safe pedestrian traffic. So now we are asked to credit Tim Callanan and Josh Whitley for spending our precious tax dollars on an overly elaborate solution that does not assure pedestrian safety. I am not impressed with flashing crosswalks in a community where neither motorists nor pedestrians heed stop signs, cross walks or rights of way. A red light is needed to assure safety. And I am offended by the pandering suggestion that residents can decide on the makeup of the greenspace.
This is simply a Berkeley County boondoggle that should not consume our tax dollars.
