Spell it out
On Jan. 23, eighth grader Braeden LaRoche came out on top at the district spelling bee, as part of the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
With words such as “impetus” and “infatuation,” LaRoche bested the nearly 30 students from all of the middle schools in Berkeley County.
Jennifer Fisher, who teaches eighth grade English and Social Studies and heads the spelling bee program at Daniel Island School, said the next step for LaRoche is the regional spelling bee, which will be held at Georgia Southern in March.
