Flying Fish beat Northbridge, drop one to Snee Farm

The Daniel Island Flying Fish swim team went 1-1 last week as they faced some of the toughest competition in the Coastal Carolina Aquatic Association (CCAA). On Tuesday night they routed the Northbridge Terrace Killer Whales 319-227. There were many close races, including many relays that came right down to the wire. The DI coaching staff was impressed with the way the swimmers came to compete, fighting down to the finish in all their races.

On Thursday night, the Fish took on CCAA powerhouse Snee Farm. Daniel Island fell 180-357 to Snee Farm in a battle between the top two teams from last season. Daniel Island swimmers never gave up, winning multiple freestyle relays to draw closer to Snee Farm. Despite the loss, it was a fun night, with many Daniel Island swimming alumni present to cheer on the kids.

Coach Rose Van Metre said, “It was great to see so many past swimmers coming back to support the kids swimming now.”

Every week the coaches select swimmers of the week whom they feel best illustrate through work ethic and sportsmanship what it means to be a Flying Fish. This week’s swimmers of the week are: 5-6 age group - Lilah May and Delcambre St. Germain; 7-8 age group -Ellie Chalupsky and LJ LaVeen; 9 -10 age group - Berkleigh Hatch and Alex Shrouds; 11-12 age group - Kate Kowalski and Asher Western; 13-14 age group - Katie Susol and Evan Arnett; and 15-18 age group - Annalise Hafner and Jake Ward.

Congratulations to these outstanding athletes! This week the Flying Fish look to improve on their overall 3-1 record as they take on Coosaw Creek, who finished just behind them in third at City Meet last year. Look for some fast swims as the Fish look to rebound from their loss to Snee Farm and gain some momentum into the last half of the season!
