There were some technical difficulties, but after the third try the rocket launched successfully!

The rocket was launched from the field across from the Berkeley Country library on Daniel Island.

Thomas Moore, Sydney Hare, and Jillian Moore hold up their certificates indicating that they participated in the global rocket launch.

The launch activity was one of several kid-friendly events held at the library in June and July as part of its summer reading program, which featured a space theme in celebration of the Apollo 11 moon landing’s 50th anniversary!

After the rocket launch, the kids got a certificate of participation.

At the program, participants attempted to get the launch into the Guinness Book of World Records.

Spirits soared at the Berkeley County Library on Daniel Island on July 16 as crowds gathered for a scale-model Saturn V rocket launch in celebration of the Apollo 11 anniversary! Library staff planned an out of this world event to educate participants on the topic of rocketry – while attempting to set a Guinness Book world record for their launch.
