‘Red’ means time to shop on DI
Are you ready to get your thrift on?
The Daniel Island Annual Fall Red Balloon Yard Sale is set for Saturday, Sept. 26, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. across the island.
Thrifting has seen a rival of late, with resale shops doing increased business, thrifters old and young being bitten by the bug, and a number of TV and YouTube shows gaining viewership. So the Daniel Island semiannual yard sale is an understandably popular event.
Shoppers can wander the neighborhoods of Daniel Island in search of unique finds and special deals. Sellers put out a red balloon at their homes to let everyone know they are participating.
The Red Balloon Sale is unique in that the Daniel Island CC&Rs prohibit these types of sales conducted from a residence/unit, the covenants do allow for these Red Balloon sales to take place twice a year, once in the Fall and again in the Spring.
Homeowners are reminded that setup for their yard sale must take place in either the front or rear of their property, and no blocking of sidewalks is allowed. Set up or selling is not allowed in any POA common areas, parks, or amenities, or those belonging to the City of Charleston. This is prohibited for liability and insurance reasons.
Please note that this is a rain-or-shine event. There is no rescheduled date for inclement weather.
Sellers can add their location to the Daniel Island Property Owners’ Association map that shoppers can use as a guide. If you would like your address to be added to the map, email info@dicommunity.org. Include in the subject line of the email “2026 Fall Red Balloon Yard Sale Map,” and then in the body of the email, please provide your Daniel Island address as well as a good contact phone number in case the POA needs to get back to you for any reason. This is a “complimentary” service being offered to anyone who wishes to list their address on the yard sale map and is only for homes located on Daniel Island.

For those participating who would like to donate unsold items to Palmetto Goodwill, they will have one truck located at the Blackbaud parking lot on Fairchild Street and River Landing Drive to collect donated items from 12-2 p.m. (or until their truck fills up). Goodwill may not be able to accommodate everyone due to truck space and timing constraints, and depending on the number of donations, but will try to accommodate to the best of their ability. In the event you have two pieces of large furniture items or more, it is always recommended to set up a home pickup with Goodwill directly by requesting a pickup online or you can contact the Donated Goods Coordinator Bobbi Dragone at 843-300-8975 or bdragone@palmettogoodwill.org.
