4th Annual History Under the Stars family Movie Night & Campout

Gather your tents, games, and marshmallow roasting supplies and prepare to head down to the banks of the Wando River near Daniel Island Children’s Park. The Daniel Island Historical Society’s Annual History Under the Stars Family Movie Night and Campout, to be held May 14-15, is back with a host of special activities. This popular, family-friendly event, now in its fourth year, is returning to its debut location, after spending the last two years at Smythe Park.

Organizers were thrilled at the chance to set up camp in the fields near Children’s Park, due the area’s very close proximity to the former homesite of our island’s namesake, Robert Daniell, who served as Governor of the Carolinas some 300 years ago. The event will feature a “most authentic tent award” (think Colonial times), as well as an opportunity for attendees to tour the Schooner Pride, which will be docked at the pier at Children’s Park on May 14. Campers will also get the historical scoop on Governor Daniell. In addition, food trucks will be on hand to offer tasty fare for dinner, for those who would rather not “rough it” when it comes to sustenance. Honeycomb Café will serve up breakfast on Sunday morning.

The cost for the campout is $35 per family (based on one tent and one tent site). Registration is required as space is limited.
