DI ARTIST SHOWCASES WATERCOLOR COLLECTION AT SERMET’S

The colorful and fanciful art collection at Sermet’s on Daniel Island will have a bit of a local touch these next couple of months – thanks to Daniel Island resident Barbara Meierhusby. An artist and retired conservator, Meierhusby has several pieces from her watercolor repertoire on display at the popular island eatery at the request of owner Sermet Aslan.

“He asked me to show some of my pieces after he recently saw a piece of my work” said Meierhusby. “Later, he said he would like to showcase other local artisans as well. I was the first to be invited! I was really thrilled!

Meierhusby has a total of five pieces on display. Her collection, showing at the restaurant until May 1, features four watercolor works and one drawing. Meierhusby paints works in aqueous media, preferably on handmade linen/cotton papers. Her paintings seek to express the essence of an image. She studied painting and drawing throughout undergraduate and Master of Fine Arts programs. During her career, she worked as a Rare Book and Paper Conservator at The Library of Congress. Meierhusby has participated in juried shows nationwide and received the Goldsmith Watercolor Award in the Mid-South Exhibition with Walter Hopps, director of the Corcoran Gallery of Art Washington DC as a juror.
