Berkeley Sheriff’s Office honored, launches podcast
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office was named Agency of the Year at the 2025 Highway Safety Law Enforcement Awards Ceremony.
Hosted by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety Office of Highway Safety and Justice Programs, the annual ceremony honors law enforcement agencies and officers across the state for their excellence and commitment to DUI enforcement.
Berkeley County was recognized in the category of agencies with 101 or more officers.
Participating agencies are part of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Network and are also recognized for their involvement in the 2025 Law Enforcement Challenge.
The awards highlight outstanding efforts in reducing impaired driving and improving roadway safety throughout South Carolina.
“This recognition is a direct reflection of the hard work and dedication our deputies put in every single day to keep our roads safe,” Sheriff Duane Lewis said in a statement. “DUI enforcement is critical to protecting lives in our community, and I am incredibly proud of our traffic team for their commitment to this mission.”
THE BERKELEY BUZZ PODCAST
In other sheriff’s office news, the county has launched a new podcast called The Berkeley Buzz.
The first episode, titled “Allow Me to Reintroduce Myself,” features Lewis and offers listeners a deeper, more personal look at the leader of the agency.
In this debut episode, Lewis reintroduces himself to the residents of Berkeley County, providing valuable insight for both longtime community members and those new to the area. He shares his personal thoughts, discusses the inspiration behind the book he authored, and reflects on the legacy he hopes to leave through his service.
The conversation also highlights Sheriff Lewis’ perspective on what defines a great deputy sheriff, emphasizing the values, character, and commitment required to serve the citizens of Berkeley County.
“We are excited to launch this podcast as another way to engage with our community,” said Lewis in an announcement. “This platform allows us to share our stories, our mission, and our vision in a more personal and meaningful way.”
