'Catch' special moments with your kids while fishing!
Kids grow up fast. This was particularly evident when Erik Swanson and his son Carl joined me for a quick afternoon fishing trip. It has been a while since we fished together. So, I was bit surprised when we met at the boat landing and Carl was nearly my height.
As we idled out of the creek, the tide was falling and forecast to be unusually low. Our plan was to target Redfish that would be forced into deeper holes and channels by the negative tide. On the ride to our first fishing spot, I introduced Carl to my new favorite lure, a Z-Man Trick ShotZ. Carl listened intently as I explained how to retrieve the lure (with a short snap of the rod tip and a bit of pause).
Upon arrival at the fishing spot, a shallow oyster flat adjacent to a deep channel, Carl surprised me again with his excellent angling technique. It was clear that Carl had been fishing (a lot) since the last time I saw him.
It only took a few casts for Carl to catch a Redfish using the Trick ShotZ. When taking the picture of Carl and his fish, it struck me again how quickly kids grow up. In Carl’s case, he grew in stature and angling capability. In a few more years, I feel sure Carl will be taking his Dad, and hopefully me, fishing.
Kids grow up fast. Don’t blink! One day you drop them off at daycare and it seems the next day you drop them off at college. Fishing is a great way to spend the precious time in between.
