COCO named WTA 500 women's tennis tournament of the year
For the fourth consecutive year, the Credit One Charleston Open held on Daniel Island has been named the WTA 500 Tournament of the Year.
The Charleston Open was selected from among 18 Women's Tennis Association 500 tournaments worldwide, competing against events in North America, Australia, Europe, China, and the Middle East. The award is voted on by players and honors a tournament for the excellence of its staff and organization, its fans, and its commitment to tennis and its athletes.
“Earning this honor again in 2025 is a proud moment for everyone who brings the Credit One Charleston Open to life each year,” said Bob Moran, President of Beemok Sports & Entertainment.
The COCO is North America's largest women's-only professional tennis event and has been held annually in South Carolina since 1973 and on Daniel Island since 2001.
The nine-day event invites the world's top professional women's tennis players to compete in both singles and doubles competitions. The event traditionally hosts more than 90,000 attendees.

Their dedication and tireless efforts have established a well-deserved reputation and set an inspiring benchmark for others," WTA CEO Portia Archer said.
In April, Credit One Bank extended its title partnership of the Credit One Charleston Open through 2031 and announced the tournament will offer equal prize money beginning in 2026. The COCO will become the first standalone WTA 500 tournament to voluntarily increase prize money to match comparable men's ATP 500 events.
The Credit One Charleston Open will return March 28 - April 5, 2026.
Current player commitments include Daniel Island's Emma Navarro, currently World No. 15; World No. 7 Madison Keys; and the 2025 COCO champion and World No. 6 Jessica Pegula.
