Coming soon: The Brouhaha Marching Band
A groovy new musical ensemble for all ages is coming to Charleston. Want to get in on the act? The Brouhaha Marching Band is free and everyone and anyone can participate, according to creator and Black Tie Music Academy co-owner Kris Manning of Daniel Island.
Beginners, seasoned vets and everyone in between are encouraged to join this “fun and funky” good time! No experience necessary. A core of players that originate from the Black Tie Music Academy Brouhaha Marching Band class on Daniel Island will provide the steady beats and melody. Their drum major and section leaders will guide participants as they add their own special flair to the group.
Play an instrument, washboard, garbage can lid, kazoo, grandma’s trumpet, a shnozzwangle, harrumph or the spoons. Play nothing at all and tap dance, flourish scarves, manipulate a puppet, roller skate, hula-hoop. Express yourself through face paint, wigs, tutus, a football helmet, gorilla suit.
“Your imagination sets the limitations!” stated Manning in a press release about the new initiative. “The goal of the Brouhaha Marching Band is to allow folks to #expressyourself as an individual while being part of community and have good clean fun! The Brouhaha Marching Band will bring the party every time it performs!”
The first gig for the band is set for Tuesday, February 28, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Guggenheim Plaza on Daniel Island.
“We’re celebrating Fat Tuesday with a fantabulous Mardi Gras Celebration,” added Manning. “Be a part of the sidewalk parade and party in the park hosted by the V Tones band of Charleston. Enjoy food and drink specials offered by area restaurants that coincide with the event! This event is free!”
