FIFTEEN YEARS AGO

In the December 11, 2003 issue of The Daniel Island News, the main theme of the paper was “Meet Your Neighborhood Firefighters.” Profiles of firefighters from Company 18 and 20 were featured.

There was also an article about the Charleston Cookie Co., which included some recipes for holiday cookies.

Island Life photos included a picture of Santa on Daniel Island.

TEN YEARS AGO

Smart gifts were a hot topic in the December 11, 2008 issue of The Daniel Island News. An article titled “Look for smart toys this holiday season” encouraged giving gifts to children that challenge their brains. Some of the best toys suggested to purchase included stacking blocks, any games which require memory, puzzles, sequencing games, Scrabble, and similar toys.

In Island Life, pictures from the Holiday Festival were featured.

FIVE YEARS AGO

The centerspread in the December 12, 2013 issue of The Daniel Island News featured the annual Holiday Shopping Guide. Many of the paper’s advertisers at the time listed their most popular gift for the season.

The issue also featured an article about the playground equipment at Codner’s Ferry Park being upgraded.
