The March 4, 2004 issue of The Daniel Island News featured an article about the construction of the new Daniel Island School. Former Berkeley County Superintendent Chester Floyd confirmed that there was a 12 month delay in constructing the new facility. The timing and development of the new K-8 school changed numerous times, as plans were tweaked.
“This school is going to be very unique, anyone with school-aged children that wants the best for their child will want to come here,” stated Floyd in 2004. “I expect this school to be the Lighthouse of the Lowcountry, and as an educational facility and in academic performance there will be none stronger.”
Also in school news, it was reported that the Hanahan Elementary School PTA auction fundraiser raised over $11,000. It was also reported that Daniel Island Academy was on track for an Aug. 2, 2004 opening.

Also, there was a picture collage of Daniel Island Historical Society members and supporters as they embarked on a “field trip and bus tour” to downtown Charleston to learn more about the life and artistry of the late Master Blacksmith Philip Simmons, who was born on Daniel Island in 1912.
