Ghouls and Goblins Galore!
Many Daniel Island residents celebrate Halloween wholeheartedly and inclusively.
The community shows off the holiday spirit by decorating their homes with elaborate outside displays, planning ahead for visits by crowds of children. Island moms share tips, from “buy the whole candy aisle” to “Costco has the biggest bags of candy.” The Halloween holiday planning and chatter starts early in the month.
Day and night, a variety of decorations and themes, and even music, show off the island’s frighteningly fun enthusiasm for Halloween. The skeletons, pumpkins and variety of yard décor look inviting in the sun’s glow. And by nightfall, families have displayed enticing lights and shadows, inflated creepy butlers and animated creatures in their yards. This all-out effort and sheer dedication of residents calls for a comprehensive drive around Daniel Island before the trick or treating begins.
A few extra minutes are needed to get a good look at the decorations outside 1709 Sailmaker Street, in the Smythe Park area. Slow down, pull over and park. You’ll definitely want to get out and walk slowly in front of this house. The amount of work and thought put into the presentation fills the eyes and stills the soul. The intricate figures positioned on the front porch and yard beckon kids of all ages. The residents, Jimmy Baldrick and Marge Baker Lawson, say, “We love decorating for Halloween for our neighbors, for the entire island. Please bring your children by and enjoy our décor!”

“Mike started the first weekend of October,” noted Angela. “We had to go bigger this year – that was our strategy. We are expecting tons of kids this year due to new development.”
The spirit of it all is contagious and the message is consistent – kids of all ages, both the young and the young at heart, are encouraged to take part. Enjoy the decorations and celebrate, Daniel Island-style!
