Police Blotter - December 21, 2017

The following cases were taken from City of Charleston Police reports filed with Team 5 on Daniel Island between Dec. 1 and Dec. 13, 2017.

Motor vehicle theft

An electric golf cart was stolen from a condominium on River Landing Drive on Dec. 9 between 11 a.m. and 1:40 p.m. This is still under investigation.

Shoplifting

Alcohol was stolen from a gas station on Daniel Island on Dec. 2. According to the report, the manager advised that he thought that the three suspects had shoplifted from the gas station previously. The case is under investigation.

Simple assaults

Police were contacted by an employee of a Daniel Island gas station on Dec. 6 in reference to a simple assault. The police report states that three unknown subjects entered the gas station and began engaging in physical horseplay. The victim advised that while he was restocking part of the store, one subject approached him from behind and began making sexual gestures towards him. At the same time, another subject approached from the front and also began making sexual gestures towards him, stated the report. This lasted for only a few seconds, the victim told police. The subjects did not touch the victim’s genitals or buttocks. No suggestive statements or threats were made. This case is still under investigation.

Team 5 responded to an apartment complex on Daniel Island in reference to a simple assault on the afternoon of Dec. 6. A woman contacted police after she and her daughter engaged in a physical altercation. According to the police report, the woman reported that after getting into an argument, her daughter shoved her, causing her to fall and items to break. The woman also received minor injuries to her face and forehead. EMS responded and checked both parties. The daughter was arrested and transported to Berkeley County Jail.

An officer met with a victim at East Cooper Hospital on Dec. 7 in reference to a simple assault. The party advised that the suspect had punched him in the mouth with a closed fist at a restaurant on Daniel Island Drive just before midnight. The victim received “a couple of stitches,” according to police. The case remains under investigation.

Intimidation

An employee of a business on Daniel Island Drive reported to police on Dec. 11 that he had received a cryptic and threatening email on Dec. 10. According to the police report, the email suggested that the author had been hired to kill the victim but was having second thoughts about doing it. The email further states that the author was willing to not go through with the hit if the victim would send a monetary amount. This was determined by police to be an extortion attempt.
