Police Blotter - june 22, 2017

Team 5 officers responded to several reports from citizens regarding potential crimes over the last several weeks. The information below was taken from Team 5 police reports.

Impersonation

A Daniel Island resident recently visited the City of Charleston police department downtown to report that someone had used his personal information to open an online account in his name.

In a separate case, an individual contacted police to report that an unknown person had opened a Pay Pal account in his name last fall. One charge had been posted to the account.

Theft from a building

A Delahow Street resident reported to police on May 22 that several pieces of jewelry were missing from the home. The items were last seen by the complainant two years prior. The case is under investigation. Police are reminding all citizens to lock their valuables in a waterproof and fireproof safe - and to also be sure to conduct background checks on all contractors, nannies, cleaning personnel and others who might be spending time inside their homes.

Drug equipment violation

A vehicle pulled over by a Team 5 officer on I-526 for driving aggressively was found to contain a marijuana pipe and residue inside. The driver was charged with drug paraphernalia and traffic offenses and released.

Intimidation

An employee at a business on Charleston Regional Parkway contacted police on May 23 in reference to feeling unsafe. An employee who was fired reportedly made comments upon leaving the business that caused the complainant to fear being harmed. No physical assault took place, according to police, and the victim later declined to press charges.

Pitbull attack

Officers were called to the scene of a property in Beresford Creek Landing on May 28 in response to a call that three pitbulls were running loose in the neighborhood. A resident’s dog was reportedly attacked by the offending canines. According to police, the owner of the dogs resides in an unincorporated area of Berkeley County. City of Charleston Animal Services also responded. In addition, the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department was notified.

Vandalism

A resident of an apartment on Bucksley Lane notified police between May 29 and 30 that someone had scratched the side of her vehicle, possibly with a key. The victim believed the perpetrator in the incident may have been her ex-boyfriend. No other damage to the vehicle was noted.

Theft from motor vehicle

Two wallets were stolen from a vehicle left unlocked while parked on Iron Bottom Lane on May 31, according to police. The case is under investigation.

Stockade Storage thefts

Police are still investigating multiple thefts that occurred at Stockade Storage on Daniel Island in March and April. Officers estimate between 16 and 17 victims have come forward to report thefts from property stored at the site. No arrests have been made as of yet. The cases remain under investigation.
