Ready or not, hurricane season starts today

While people in South Carolina know that any season can be hurricane season in the
Lowcountry, June 1 marks the official start for the Atlantic states.
Occurring throughout the summer and fall, hurricane season specifically runs June 1 to Nov. 30
each year.
The Daniel Island Property Owners’ Association has released its hurricane preparedness
webpage ahead of the 2026 season.
So now is the time to get prepared.
The S.C. Emergency Management Division released the official 2026 South Carolina Hurricane
Guide, and you can download the complete guide online. It details useful information on what residents should do
before, during, and after the landfall of a major hurricane.
The South Carolina Hurricane Guide is updated annually by SCEMD in collaboration with local
and state partners of the S.C. Emergency Response Team.
The City of Charleston also has some helpful information regarding flood zones on its website.
In Berkeley County, the Emergency Preparedness Department continually works hard to ensure
the County is prepared for all potential disasters. Find out more information on their website.
The DIPOA reported that when it’s notified of a potential storm, they issue guidance regarding
the storm and additional useful information via its newsletter, website, and Facebook page
(Daniel Island Property Owners Association).
“We recommend all residents sign up for our newsletter as this is our best form of communication,” writes the DIPOA.
