TEN YEARS AGO - PORT SECURITY: DANIEL ISLAND/CAINHOY SITE SCREENS HIGH RISK CONTAINERS
In the March 1, 2007 edition of the paper we reported that 100 percent of the cargo coming through the Charleston Port is screened for anti-terrorism purposes, with 75 to 100 containers a week being screened at Charleston Freight Station, Inc., off Clements Ferry Road, which served as the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Central Examining Station.
In other news, plans for the Daniel Island Company’s public marina proposed for the Wando River near River Landing Drive received unanimous conceptual approval at Charleston’s Commercial Corridor Design Review Board. Those plans have not moved forward.
In our “What I do” feature, we highlighted island audiologist Jennifer Esse. Esse opened Daniel Island Hearing in September 2005 and continues to operate her practice here today.
FIVE YEARS AGO - "MORE BAD GRAMMAR"
In the March 1, 2012 edition of the paper the cover and centerfold featured a book by a local author who highlighted public displays of bad grammar. Take a moment to read the cover of that paper, reproduced here, for a few chuckles. Alas, though, everyone is susceptible to a slip up from time to time.
In news, Elvis was in the house, the Bishop England Performing Arts Center, that is. The BE Band hosted an Elvis show as part of a band fundraiser.
