Police Blotter - June 21, 2018

The following cases were taken from City of Charleston Police reports filed with Team 5 on Daniel Island between May 28 and June 13.

THEFT FROM BUILDING

On May 29, at 4:45 p.m., a man in possession of a firearm entered a gas station to use the restroom. About 10 minutes after leaving the gas station, the man realized that he had left his gun in the water closet. Upon returning to the lavatory, the gun-owner realized that his weapon was gone. He soon reported it stolen to the police.

MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT

A truck parked in the driveway of a residence in Barfield Park was stolen on May 30. The truck was unlocked, with the keys in the ignition, according to police. Tools in the vehicle were also stolen. LARCENY

Between June 2 at 10:30 a.m. and June 3 at 2:30 a.m., checks were stolen out of a residential mailbox in the Peninsula subdivision off Clements Ferry Road. At a traffic stop, an officer noticed the envelopes featured an address that was different than the driver’s. Checks stolen from citizens’ mailboxes is a crime that has been reported to Team 5 several times in recent weeks.

THEFT FROM MOTOR VEHICLE

In the Beresford Hall subdivision, around 2:20 a.m. on June 8, officers responded to a report of an object stolen from a truck. The victim stated that he was awoken to the sound of his car alarm. The perpetrator had broken the window of the car and removed a handgun that was placed in the center console. The victim claims that no one knew the gun was in the console. This is the first forced entry into a car that Team 5 has seen in a long time, stated Lt. James Byrne. No other vehicles in the area were touched. The case is still under investigation.

THEFT FROM BUILDING

On June 12, an officer was dispatched to an apartment on Seven Farms Drive in reference to a theft from the building. The victim claimed that an unknown subject took two bikes from the building on Monday, June 11. Several bikes have recently been stolen from that area.
