The theme of the March 27, 2014 issue of The Daniel Island News was the Family Circle Cup (now known as Volvo Car Open). There was an overview of tournament happenings, including what was new for that year. Fans were told to expect another action-packed event both on and off the courts, a slightly new layout for the food court area that took advantage of a new court surface, and an expanded bar and entertainment area on the grand lawn. The tournament was also set to spruce up security, a trend for many large sporting events across the country, including the Cooper River Bridge Run, after the 2013 bombing at the Boston Marathon.
