Support for Lisa Kerns
Oftentimes, our most essential elected positions are the ones grabbing the fewest headlines, such as clerk of court.
I, like perhaps you, was not aware of this position’s significance until I was elected to Charleston City Council and recognized this is not a position for which I want to vote blindly.
Clerk of court is central to the proper functioning of our courts and public safety and must possess an intimate knowledge of the judicial system, organizational leadership skills, and respect for government transparency and the public’s safety. Lisa Kerns perfectly fits that description.
As a court reporter and member of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office Citizen Advisory Team, Lisa understands the challenges facing our court system. For example: Docket management ensures cases are heard in a timely fashion. Sheriff Duane Lewis has endorsed
Lisa because she is committed to working with our judges to effectively manage this process, thereby saving taxpayers and protecting defendants’ and victims’ rights.
Top-of-mind in the Daniel Island/Cainhoy area is not wanting to travel to Moncks Corner for certain issues. As a Clements Ferry resident, Lisa wants to implement online systems so residents could manage these issues regardless of location.
In South Carolina, we do not register with a party, meaning you can vote in either primary. The Berkeley County Clerk of Court race has two Republican candidates and no Democrat candidate, which means the June 14 primary will, most likely, determine who holds this office. My hope for our community is that person is Lisa Kerns.
