Every night before I fall asleep, I commit to reading one chapter in the book that sits on my nightstand. It feels like an exhausting idea at the time, but after I finish the last page I’m delighted I did so.
Why? Because there is nothing more relaxing than a good read before bed. Plus, it knocks me out far better than melatonin and prevents me from being groggy for that early morning alarm.
Lately, the book beside my bed has been “Tender is the Night” by the brilliant novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald. I’m a sucker for a romantic tragedy and in my opinion nobody does it better than Fitzgerald. The wordplay, the vivid imagery, the scandalous romance – you get the point.
For our Sept. 8 edition of the paper, we are asking readers to submit book recommendations based on what they read this summer, along with a personal headshot. It can be fiction, nonfiction, children, business related, health related, sports, memoir, or anything you’ve read
in any genre.
What did you read worth sharing? The maximum word limit is 150 words. The deadline to send responses is noon on Friday, Aug. 26. Please send all entries to zach@thedanielislandnews.com.
The Daniel Island News looks forward to reviewing your recommendations on what our readers have been reading this summer!
See you around the island!
