Ugly habit
I am a long time resident of Daniel Island and I bike the trails all over the island. Last week, I was dismayed when I rode along the sidewalk near the parking lot along a small pond near the baseball field and soccer fields. The pond edge was littered by beer cans. I was able to retrieve a total of more than 22 cans of Bud Light, Busch Light, Michelob Ultra and others. This was not the entire load of cans tossed.
Some had sunk into the pond and were beyond my reach. This is such a sad situation.
The mining of aluminum is hugely destructive to the environment, a place where we all live. But, the good thing is that aluminum is infinitely recyclable. It only takes a small effort to toss these cans for recycling in the trash and the benefits are large for us, the economy and the environment.
It does appear that there are some regulars making this garbage. Maybe talking about this will convince them to change the ugly habit.
