Yes, a dog-friendly selfie stick is a thing

Brody, the amazing fish-finding and stock-trading dog, will be 9-years-old this week. One of his birthday wishes is to be the official photographer of our fishing adventures. For years, Elliott (my son) has been the official photographer, but you only turn 9-years-old once. So, on our most recent fishing trip, Brody took all of our selfies.

This is a much bigger task than it seems. While Brody is the amazing fish-finding and stock-trading dog, he does not have any thumbs. Holding my iPhone and taking a picture (without any thumbs) is challenging. However, it did provide Elliott and me with some pretty good laughs. Unfortunately, after numerous drops, my iPhone screen cracked. I stopped laughing. Elliott and Brody thought it was hilarious.

When Elliott and Brody composed themselves, we got back to fishing. The surface water temperature was 52 degrees, and the trout were hungry. Most of the fish were congregating along oyster bars with a depth transition from 5 to 10 feet. The trout were plentiful but small. Brody did not think they were picture worthy. After the most recent picture taking episode, I agreed.

After releasing a bunch of small trout, we decided to target larger fish and moved into deeper water. The move paid off and soon we were catching quality trout.

We released several and decided to keep a few for supper. For the fish we were keeping, there was no urgency to quickly release them. So, Elliott and I decided that Brody should take a few pictures. More hilarity ensued. I was dizzy from laughing so much. Then, Brody dropped my iPhone overboard. I stopped laughing. Elliott and Brody thought it was hilarious.

For my article this week, we are using an old photo. For his birthday, Brody is getting a dog-friendly selfie stick (with a phone lanyard) that we found on Etsy. We are both getting new iPhones. Happy Birthday, Brody!
