Letter to the editor

In the article titled “Residents Call for Faster Improvements to Reflectance Drive Intersection” in the June 4 edition, you quoted a Clements Ferry resident who suggested considering closing Reflectance Road until the intersection was resolved. 

However, I wonder how many readers are aware that there is a large population of residents who live on and solely depend on Reflectance Road. 

There are two churches, two homes, a Dollar General fronting Reflectance Road. Plus, I am one of 137 residents of Cain Crossing Townhomes that has an entrance and exit on Reflectance Road.  

Residents depend on Reflectance Road for access to both directions on Highway 41, Halfway Creek Road, and Clements Ferry heading to Highway 17. While we at Cain Crossing also have an exit on Clements Ferry, it only permits legal right turns heading to I-526. 

I've been engaged with (the South Carolina Department of Transportation) about Reflectance Road and the intersection project for the last few years. I post intersection project status updates in three key 29492 Facebook zip code groups. My last is dated April 2, 2026. 

To that end, the formal project to mediate traffic flow and reduce potential accidents at the intersection is actively pressing forward on all fronts so that the physical changes to that intersection can be executed.
