A strong voice
We have an important special election January 11th to elect a City Councilmember for District 1. Special elections are notorious for low turnout, but it is especially important that we have a good turnout to elect a strong leader, like Shawn Pinkston to represent residents on
Daniel Island and Cainhoy. Whether people realize it or not, municipal elections have a much greater impact on your day-to-day life than state and national elections. We depend on city services for everything from trash and yard debris pick up, street sweeping, police and fire fighting services, and street maintenance to name a few. Shawn Pinkston is a long-term resident of District 1 and has an excellent grasp of all the issues facing our area.
Another issue where we need strong leadership is due to the current redistricting news. Daniel Island and Cainhoy area have grown to the point that we may qualify for additional representation on City Council. We currently do not have a representative on council to speak for us. Some in the city want to water down some of the potential strength from our area by splitting the district. There have been discussions that would split our area by including part of us in the downtown-centric district. Just one more reason we need a strong voice like
Shawn Pinkston on council to argue against this current plan.
E. Mac McBride, Daniel Island
