Letter to the Editor: Finding faith at Saint Clare of Assisi
Blessing. It is one of those small words like faith, hope, love, grace, life – often used in passing or even flippantly. Small words yet swollen with meaning.
For a person, or people, or a church to truly be a blessing in the true and profound meaning of the word is an immense thing, a precious gift. A gift that also gives faith, hope, love, grace, and life.
A church should be a place where one encounters God and where one encounters God within others. Where the light and love of God emanate from the pastor, the church staff, and the church family. Saint Clare of Assisi Catholic Church on Daniel Island is such a place.
I have been on a spiritual journey for many years, growing closer to God while growing closer to the Catholic Church. I am a former Protestant who was confirmed into the Catholic Church (at Saint Clare of Assisi) in February. Throughout the past several months, I have had the immense blessing and joy of becoming a part of this amazing faith community. In this season, when many people are searching for a place of worship, a place to grow closer to God, and a place to experience faithful community and fraternity, I wanted to acknowledge the exceptional, exquisite contribution of Saint Clare of Assisi to our community of Daniel Island and to the entire Lowcountry.
Faith. Hope. Love. Grace. Life.
In this remarkably special church, Father Gregory West, and the parish community, bring these precious gifts to exist in abundance. Saint Clare of Assisi Catholic Church is a profound blessing I have searched and prayed all my life to find and be a part of. A blessing for which I am thankful now, and for which I will continue to be thankful, for all eternity. In this and every season.
