An 11th birthday for Brody, DI's amazing fish-finding dog
On Saturday, Brody (the amazing fish-finding and stock-trading dog) turned 11 years old. Ever wonder what a fish-finding and stock-trading dog does on his birthday? Well, you are about to find out.
Brody loves Chick-fil-A nuggets. So, around noon on Saturday, we jumped into Brody’s car and headed to the Chick-fil-A drive-thru. Brody wanted to drive, but he is awful at paddle shifting the Porsche. Not to mention that he likes to text and drive.
For the sake of public safety, I drove to Chick-fil-A. Plus, the last time he drove, I had to promise the judge it would not happen again.
When we pulled up to the drive-thru line, everyone knew Brody by name. They even knew his order – eight chicken nuggets and a Pup Cup. It made me wonder if Brody has been driving without me knowing. Before we left the parking lot, the nuggets and Pup Cup were gone.
Upon returning home, Brody wanted to go fishing. He jumped out of the car and immediately ran down the dock to the skiff. The weather was nice, and I wanted to check on the local trout population now that the water temperature was a bit warmer. I grabbed a couple of light spinning outfits and followed Brody.
We launched into the last hour of the falling tide. Brody sat next to me at the helm, and we idled around the creek looking for trout on the fish finder. It took a bit of searching, but we located a big school in about 10 feet of water.
I deployed the trolling motor and spot-locked the skiff over the fish. The trout were hungry and readily ate the Z-Man Finesse TRD on a 1/6-ounce NedLockZ jig. For the next few hours, Brody and I moved from school to school and steadily caught and released trout. It seems a good bit of the local trout population survived the cold-water event.
The fish were still biting when Brody said he was hungry again. He wanted a large pepperoni pizza from Orlando’s. I hope my cardiologist does not read The Daniel Island News.
