It’s one of the most anticipated events of the year at Bishop England High School – the annual “Unified PE” basketball game for students in the school’s Options program and their peers. And the entire school community turned out in force to cheer them on.
The teams squared off on Dec. 9, greeted by a legion of supportive fans, cheerleaders, and spirited music. The game offers a chance for Options students to showcase their skills on the court with their peer buddies.
Established in 2007, BE’s Options program is designed to provide an inclusive educational experience for students with intellectual disabilities.
BE parent Dawn Durante was there to cheer the students on and said the event always offers up plenty of “goosebump” moments.
“It fills you up,” said Durante, tapping her chest.
The game also included a check presentation by the BE Moses Club in support of St. John’s Catholic School. The Moses Club is an organization that gives students an opportunity to make a difference not only in the BEHS community, but in the greater Charleston region as
well. As a result of their fundraising efforts, they were able to donate $2,100 to St. John’s.
