Bishops take to the waters in vibrant photo shoot
If you were sailing the Charleston Harbor, exploring an iconic aircraft carrier, or on a harbor boat cruise on July 31, you might have conceded it was time to get glasses.
But you actually would have seen football players dressed in their Friday night’s best at the helm of a small boat or as tourists striking poses in front of the USS Yorktown.
Six players who are members of the Bishop England High School football team participated in the photo-op that featured the harbor: Connor McGovern, William Donato, Matthew Ponkow, Banks Luton, and the Tonon twins, Chase and Trevor. They were dressed in their classic green, blue, and white game uniforms, sometimes appearing as if they were on a mission.
Coach Logan Hall is always looking for ways to promote his football team, and in this case, it was to spread the gospel of Bishop England football via Instagram.
It’s small things like that make Hall one of the top young coaches in the U.S. of A. Last year, the American Football Coaches Association announced its 2026 Leadership Institute’s 35 Under 35, a program designed to identify future leaders in the football coaching profession, and Hall was the only high school coach on the list.
Hall says the photo shoot goes a long way in promoting his team.
“We do things like this to promote Bishop England football,” Hall said. “It helps pique the interest among our fans and alumni, and it helps us to create interest from our students who might want to become student-athletes. We just started fall practice, and this was an opportunity to prove football is more than X’s and O’s, more than blocking sleds or tackling dummies.”
Some of the benefits of the Instagram shoot are that it’s free publicity, has visual appeal, and has high user engagement.
And in this case, it was a team effort. The photographer was former Bishop England grid star Jack Perry, who now attends Charleston Southern University. Perry is an education major who has a knack for business. He is the force behind his Instagram account, @jwp.shots, which has more than 2,300 followers.
