The other day, Brody, the amazing fish-finding and stock-trading dog, and I were walking along the Daniel Island waterfront.
It was the perfect fall afternoon, sunny and warm with low humidity. We stopped to observe an fisherman on the shore.
A passer-by stopped to greet Brody. She thanked him for the MicroStrategy stock tip and instructed me to feed Brody steak for dinner.
After a few minutes, the angler noticed us watching and waved. He asked, “Is that Brody (the amazing fish-finding and stock-trading dog)?”
Before I could reply, the angler stopped fishing and walked over to meet Brody. They exchanged pleasantries. The angler thanked Brody for writing the article in The Daniel Island News.
We continued our walk. Kids pointed and yelled, “Hello, Brody!” As we passed, I could hear the kids say, “Who is that with Brody?”
When we got back to the car, Brody said all the public attention made him hungry. I was not very hungry (because no one noticed me).
So, I reminded Brody that he was having steak for dinner. We compromised and went to the Starbucks drive through. I ordered an iced coffee. Brody ordered two pup cups.
When we pulled up to the drive-up window, the staff recognized Brody and asked for a picture. My feelings were hurt when they asked me to lean back so they could see Brody better.
On the ride home, I asked Brody if he wanted to go fishing. He told me he was tired and that I needed to go to Publix and select a big juicy steak. So, I dropped Brody at the house and went on to Publix.
While shopping, I pondered my fall from captain to errand boy for a dog. I found the answer to my dilemma in the outdoor aisle. Sunglasses! If Brody wears sunglasses, perhaps fewer people will recognize him.
After dinner, Brody tried on the sunglasses. I told him all the popular dogs wear them. They provide UV light protection for his eyes, and they make him look absolutely fabulous. Sadly, he did not fall for it.
