Capt. Greg fishes solo while his dog pal Brody boots, scoots, and boogies
In October, fishing and catching are usually synonymous.
Fishing is so easy that Brody, the amazing fish-finding and stocktrading dog, is planning to take most of the month off.
While the value of my stock portfolio will most assuredly decline, I am pretty confident that I will still catch fish.
October fishing is just that good. During his time off, Brody wants to learn to line dance. So, he jumped on a plane to Nashville, Tennessee, and left me alone for a few days. I wonder if he will buy two pairs of boots and a hat. I’ll keep track of his social media and let you know.
Upon returning from dropping Brody at the airport, low tide was approaching. I decided to jump in the skiff and go fishing.
The weather was perfect: light wind and sunny. Very comfortable. A great day for a boat ride. So, I ran the skiff up the Wando River past the Highway 41 bridge.
Without Brody on board, I wondered where to fish. After a bit of pondering, I decided on a small creek that I haven’t fished in for years.
Upon arrival at the creek, I remembered why I had not fished there in years. It is super shallow and very difficult to navigate. Thankfully, I was not stuck for very long and was able to pole the skiff into position.
I cast a Z-Man StreakZ 3.75 on a 1/8-ounce Finesse Jig in front of a good-sized redfish. It shot forward and crushed the lure.
After a short fight, I took a quick picture and released the fish. For the next hour, it was cast, catch, and release.
Fishing and catching were synonymous! On the ride back to the dock, I thought about Brody in Nashville. Four boots and a cowboy hat. The mental image made me laugh.
