Like father, like daughters: Fishing gene runs strong

The other day, I was shopping at Publix. It was a warm day, and I was enjoying the cool air in the frozen food section. As I pondered chocolate or strawberry ice cream, a fellow Publix patron stopped and introduced themselves. I shared my quandary. Together we decided on both!

With my ice cream dilemma resolved, the patron asked me to include my daughters more often in my weekly article. She said everyone knows Brody (the amazing fish-finding and stock- trading dog) and Elliott (my son). I told her I have two amazing daughters – Maddie, my biological daughter, and Heather, my daughter-in-law. I love them both unconditionally. Not surprisingly, both enjoy fishing.

Recently, Maddie and Heather spent several days in Bermuda. After a few days of shopping and restaurants, they decided to spend an afternoon fishing. Thankfully, they had the foresight to pack a couple of travel spinning rods and a good selection of lures.

As it turned out, the fish in Bermuda have an affinity for a small Shimano Current Sniper lure. An erratic stop and start retrieve cadence triggered most of the strikes. They caught several yellowtail and mangrove snappers, along with a few jacks and a trumpet fish. All fish were released.

It was a warm day, so Maddie and Heather quit fishing and searched for the best ice cream in Bermuda. They did not find any ice cream but made do with frozen margaritas at a beachfront bar. I guess that is close enough. Of course, they had to ponder strawberry or lime margaritas. Being my daughters, they decided on both!
