Gold medal haul for Bishop England track and field teams

The Bishop England High School track and field program had an impressive one-two punch in the Wood Lowcountry Invitational, hosted by Woodland High School. 

The Bishop girls collected six of the 17 gold medals and finished in first place in a close encounter with Hampton County. The Bishops won 107-105, with Stratford in third place with 81.5 points. 

The Bishop boys claimed second place as Stratford posted a 131.5-110 victory over BE. Hampton County was third with 93 points. 

The Bishop girls finished in first place in two field events: Kinsley Watson captured gold with a throw of 35.16 meters in the javelin, and Katie Griffin won the pole vault, clearing 3.35 meters. 

The Bishops also won the 4x400- and 4x800-meter relays with respective times of 4 minutes and 14.15 seconds and 10:02.51. 

Freshman Siena D’Agostino won the 800-meter run in 2:24.10 while Grace Buss turned in a time of 1:07.99 in the 400-meter dash to earn a gold medal. 

Olivia Allen, who just completed basketball season, was second in the 200-meter dash. Nora Brahim collected a silver medal in the 800-meter run, and Victoria Wood had a bronze effort in the triple jump. 

The Bishop boys also had an impressive haul of gold medals, earning four on the day. 

Junior Connor Good, the only Bishop boy to medal at the Class AAAA state meet last spring, won the 800 run Saturday with a time of 2:02.18. 

The 4x800-meter relay team won gold, crossing the finish line in 8:40.00. Jack Perry won the discus with a heave of 38.03 meters, and Charles Sakre’s 48.17-meter effort in the javelin was good for first place. 

The Bishop boys collected four other medals. 

Logan Schallenberger won bronze in both the 1,600 and 3,200 runs. William Mote was second in the 400-meter-dash, and Ben Huntington won a silver medal in the 3,200.
