The Philip Simmons High School baseball team captured the Class AA District 8 championship on May 12 with a 10-0 victory over Lake City in a game played at The Phil.
Nolan Clifford pitched a complete game. He had plenty of offensive support in a game that was called after six innings because of the 10-run rule.
The Iron Horses won their third straight game to improve to 15-13. They outscored the opposition 28-3 in the District 8 bracket.
Kyle Bachmann and Daniel Scarth both went 3-for-3. Charlie Helms and Brian Ebeling both went 3-for-4. Helms and Ebeling had an extra-base hit.
The Iron Horses advance to the Lower State Championship Series and will face the District 7 champion, either Atlantic Collegiate or Edisto High School.
Meanwhile, Bishop England’s bid to win the Class AAAA District C championship came up short, as South Florence took home a 6-3 victory over the Bishops.
The Bishops went 2-2 in the bracket, with both losses coming against South Florence. The Bishops finished with a 19-8 record.
