The World Tennis Association announced top-ranked tennis pro and Charleston local Emma Navarro as the Most Improved Player of the Year, highlighting her incredible year of growth and achievement.
In 2023, Navarro was ranked World No. 149 and closed the season at World No. 38.
Her breakthrough continued in 2024, marked by deep runs on the tour, including her first WTA singles title at the WTA 250 Hobart International, her first Grand Slam quarterfinal at Wimbledon, and a semifinal finish at the U.S. Open.
Navarro also made semifinal appearances in Bad Homburg, Toronto, and Monterrey, securing three wins over top five players, including a victory over then World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka at the WTA 1000 BNP Paribas Open.
Navarro’s remarkable rise saw her climb from World No. 149 in January 2023 to World No. 8 in September 2024.
“What Emma’s accomplished this season is nothing short of extraordinary,” Bob Moran, President of Beemok Sports & Entertainment said. From her work ethic to her mentality on the court, she’s taken her game to an extremely competitive level this early in her career. Winning Most Improved Player of the Year isn’t just about the results - it’s a testament to her relentless drive and the consistency she’s brought to the biggest stages including Wimbledon and the US Open.”
Navarro has career earnings nearing $2.7 million, and at 23 years of age, has gained sponsorships from brands like Fila, Red Bull, and Dove, becoming both a tennis star and a rising social media personality with 173,000 Instagram followers.
Proudly representing her home country, Navarro competed in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games as one of four American tennis players in the singles competition. Born in New York City but raised in Charleston, Navarro has become known for her variety and tennis IQ, earning praise from Serena Williams and establishing herself as one of the sport’s rising stars.
Navarro announced she will play in front of her hometown crowd next spring when she returns to the 2025 Credit One Charleston Open.
“I’m excited to return to my hometown tournament, the Credit One Charleston Open. Competing in front of my home crowd means so much to me,” Navarro said. “This year has brought many career highlights and cherished memories, and the fans from Charleston have been with me every step of the way.”
The Credit One Charleston Open will take place on Daniel Island March 29 through April 6, 2025.
“This season is just the beginning for Emma. She has the skills to be a top contender for many years to come,” Moran said. “What’s most exciting is the sense that she is still improving, still learning, and still pushing herself to get better every day. Her future is incredibly bright.”
