Springtime is the perfect time for fishing

There is a correlation between warm weather and boat traffic.

Recently, the number of boats on the water has increased significantly.

On a nice Spring day, everyone enjoys a boat ride. Especially Brody (the amazing fish finding and stock trading dog).

So on Friday afternoon, Elliott, Brody, and I went for a springtime boat ride.

Of course we brought a couple fishing rods, just in case we decided to fish.

A few minutes into our boat ride, it became breezy, and cloudy.

In early Spring, the weather can change quickly.

On Friday, it changed from warm to cool in just a few minutes.

Thankfully, Elliott and I had stashed our jackets on the skiff and Brody was wearing a fur coat. Dressed appropriately, we continued to enjoy our boat ride.

When the sun dropped low on the horizon, the wind stopped and the water in the creek became smooth as glass. Perfect conditions for fishing with top water lures.

As we idled past an expansive shallow area with submerged oyster bars. Brody jumped onto the bow and sat next to the trolling motor.  This is how he tells us where to fish.

Elliott looked at me and said, “I guess we are fishing here.”

Elliott deployed the trolling motor and slowly moved the skiff parallel to the submerged oysters. I cast a Yozuri popper to the oysters and began a pop and pause retrieve. The strike was vicious. It looked like someone dropped a bowling ball into the water.

Brody began barking. Elliott and I simultaneously exclaimed; “did you see that?”

We landed the trout, took a quick picture, and let it go.

Later that night, while at dinner, Elliott and I looked at all the pictures from our boat ride. When we got to the picture of me and the trout, Elliott started laughing. It was so windy earlier in the day that my hair was sticking straight up.

Rather than tell me to fix my hair, Elliott took the picture as is. He figured it would be funny. As it turns out, he was correct.
