The centerfold article showcased the top 10 player field in that year’s Family Circle Cup (which has been renamed the Credit One Charleston Open). There was also an article about tennis etiquette. For instance, large crowds during a tournament are asked to remain quiet during play, but fans are encouraged to cheer on the players during breaks in play.
In other news, the Daniel Island Inshore Fishing Club was to host a boating education/safety course. The course would outline rules and regulations and also include other topics like boat handling under normal conditions, adverse conditions and emergencies.

With a tennis theme, the centerfold story was about nine women who in 1970, as the new era of open tennis unfolded, went on a mission to change gender inequality. The “Original 9” were honored at the 2012 Family Circle Cup. The small band of female tennis players – led by Billie Jean King and Rosemary Casals – brought their energy and their passion, their guts and their gumption and, ultimately, they changed women’s tennis for the better.
In other news, hundreds of residents and visitors discovered yellow tickets from the City’s Revenue Collections Division on their windshields as the city began targeting island parking violations that fall.
